VACCINATION COVERAGE

Elimination of hepatitis B is feasible because we have a safe and effective hepatitis B vaccine. If everyone who is unprotected are vaccinated, there would potentially be no new HBV infection.

In response to the United Nations 2030 sustainable development goal to combat viral hepatitis, the Global Health Sector Strategy on Viral Hepatitis has set a goal to reduce new hepatitis B infection in the world by 90% by 2030.  The 2030 target for hepatitis B birth dose vaccination (given within 24 hours after birth) is 80% and infant 3 dose vaccination coverage is 90%.
